The Gibson Johnny A Guitar Series

Come see Johnny A at the GuitarSale Retail Center on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 7pm. There's no cost to attend; just show up and enjoy a set played by Johnny A and his band, followed by a Q&A session. Don't miss this chance to learn more about Johnny A's Signature Guitar Series!

One of the highlights of the 2007 Gibson Summer Jam was the open forum with Gibson Signature Artist, Johnny A. Johnny talked about his background and career a bit and then went on to answer questions and discuss details about his unique and versatile Signature guitars.

Johnny A discusses details about his Signature guitars.

There are two versions of the Johnny A. guitar: The original Johnny A. Signature (with its beautiful, highly figured maple top, ebony fingerboard, classy inlays, and fancy multiple bindings), and the Johnny A. Standard (which has a mahogany top, rosewood fingerboard, and slightly simpler binding and inlay.) Both guitars are built on the same platform and are available with either a Bigsby Vibrato tailpiece or a Stopbar tailpiece. Johnny worked closely with the Gibson Custom Shop builders to design and build the guitar to meet his needs.

Although Johnny A's signature guitars look similar to some other Gibson models, they are actually very unique in their construction. The back and sides of the guitar body are made from a solid piece of mahogany which is hollowed out except for two small oval shaped supports underneath the bridge and tailpiece. Also, the body features contoured outer surfaces on the front and back, but the inner back is flat. This helps give a quick, snappy response, and as a bonus, helps tame feedback. Another feature of the Johnny A that is unique is the 25 ½” fret scale. This longer scale length adds great clarity, sparkle, and tighter bottom end to the sound.

Many people will come to know a “Johnny A.” as a great guitar, and if you check out his body of work, you’ll also see that Johnny A. is a very tasteful musician with wonderful songs.
