From Jason Smith, SJ-200 : PRE-WAR STYLE! A couple months ago I was looking through my "Gibson's Fabulous Flattops" book and was daydreaming about pre-WWII Gibson SJ-200s. I've always loved the earliest ones and I started thinking about what made them so special. I began talking to my GuitarSale cohorts, John, Barry, and Dave Carpenter, who all suggested details that made these original pre-war beauties the true "King of the Flattops". We also talked to a couple of our customers that we knew were diehard SJ-200 fans. After all of our brainstorming, details like Adirondack spruce top, Rosewood back and sides, script Gibson logo, and ebony Fingerboard and Bridge rose to the top of our list. In our discussions, we also realized that 2007 marks the 70th Anniversary of this great model. At this point, we contacted Don Ruffato and Ren Ferguson at Gibson Montana with some of our ideas. They seemed just as excited as we were. They refined our rough ideas and added other brilliant details. After they confirmed they could get red spruce wide enough for the tops, they said they would build a limited run for us. Well, it's less than 2 months later and they've begun to arrive. We couldn't be happier with the result. I introduce to you, the Gibson SJ-200 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition:
